why some people like to lie? i mean what do they get from it? specially if u invested a lot, specially your feelings! relationship issue

i been talking to this guy for a long time and i think that i didnt do anything to him nor ask him anything, he keeps on telling that he loves me after a long months of talking and i fell in love with him , but sad to say that i just assumed that he will come to visit cause thats what he promised, but found out that he just played my feelings and just disappear without saying anything. i assume, yes, but i think i also deserved a explanation then found out that he is talking to another ts using a different i.d and he also told the same stories to her and she got the same fate like me to this guy. do i need to keep on waiting and believing that the right one will come, its hard to trust and invest feelings again. wish to find the right one..
